Solid Scored by Beto Treviño · How we score
№ 01 · The Brief

Leiah Venezuelan Food is the newest name on San Antonio's Venezuelan map, a small food-hall stand on Starcrest with seats indoors and out, and its early reviews read like word spreading down a street: found it, loved it, told everybody. The tequenos are the order the record opens with, fried cheese sticks in a thin, crackling wrapper, Venezuela's party food done properly. The Reina Pepiada arepa and the ground-beef empanada fill out the plate, the cachapa with queso de mano converts the skeptics, and the cooler stocks Frescolita, the red Venezuelan soda that sends anyone who grew up on it straight back to a Caracas childhood.

Two details separate Leiah from most new stands. The delivery record holds up as well as the counter one, which almost never happens with fried food. And the local press got there early: the San Antonio Current covered the stand within months of opening. The Northeast Side waited a long time for a real arepa this close, and it got a good one.

Call ahead if possible since it's a small stand with limited seating and hours can vary.

How we score

The Insider Score is our own 10-point editorial rating, set by the writer who covers the room. It is never an average of other sites’ stars, and it is never for sale. It weighs three things:

01Track record

How highly a kitchen rates, across how many diners, over how long.

02Consistency

Whether recent diners still agree with the long-term verdict.

03Distinction

What the kitchen does that its category does not.

Leiah Venezuelan Food earns a 6.3, solid on our scale for Venezuelan in San Antonio.
